Daylight promises

The first light of day holds so much promise.

Daylight promises

morning dew glistens

light drifts towards sleeping eyes

sky painted blood red

happy silent hour

before the world catches up

crisp air fills my lungs

daylight promises

chase away dark nightfall doubts

fresh new day beckons

I like the thought of light drifting towards sleeping eyes. Almost like the light is being respectful in not burdening those eyes with too much light. It's nice to have the haiku form again and I like the alliterative d through your closing verse. Your words are almost prayer like in their praise of the beauty bestowed on us daily.

Thank you very much.

You are welcome.

The Words That Got to Me

“happy silent hour before the world catches up crisp air fills my lungs” I love the way this captures that singular moment in time.

“sky painted blood red” I am humming and hawing about this line. Against the rest of the poem, ‘blood red’ seems a violent contrast; I see it, but I am not sure.

I enjoyed the way you have kept dawn intimate and personal. There is no grand espousing wrapped in burgeoning light. The use of haiku keeps the whole thing restrained and delicate. Beautifully done, Rachel

Thanks Tim. Yes I see what you mean about the blood red. I was inspired by a startlingly red morning sky while camping at the weekend. Not violent but incredibly vivid.

The Words That Got to Me

before the world catches up chase away dark nightfall doubts *Yesss! EXACTLY

I have my own personal way to tell if a Haiku is a TRUE Haiku: If, after I finish reading it, I sigh and feel at peace. I did both of these requisites with this beautiful poem. I've decided there's no genre of writing at which you don't excel. xoxox

Very nice of you to say so!

and then I read your response to Tim, and realized you were camping! aha!

Wow. That is beautiful--both your poem and the picture. daylight promises (noun) chase away dark nightfall doubts - hooray! You describe the welcome relief of fresh new dawn banishing night time doubts and a fresh new day begins. I did notice when you said: happy silent hour before the world catches up crisp air fills my lungs... which made me think that you sleep with the window open. Correct? At any rate, you enjoy the extra time to lie there and savor the beautiful dawn. Sounds lovely. Beautifully expressed.

Thank you! I was camping but I do also sleep with the window and blinds partly open to let in the air and light.
