The long track

I'm going on a sponsored walk challenge this weekend. May the weather be kind and the miles nice and easy!

The long track

I’m going on a little walk,

It’s not a short, sweet one it’s true.

When offered this crazy challenge,

my big mouth somehow said, “I do”.

“It’s not too far,” they promised me

“Just over some looming white cliffs”.

Now I’ve studied the pics and maps

and it’s too late for buts and ifs.

I’ve got my walking poles all packed,

my knee brace and supportive socks.

My sacroiliac belt’s buckled

to absorb the worst of the shocks.

We’ll see splendid Seven Sisters*,

if the fog and rain just hold back,

and the sparkle of sun on sea

as we trudge along the long track.

I’m really very excited

for this special mum-daughter date.

We’re camping out in a bell tent

and I just know it will be great.

Sixteen miles? Easy! We’ll do it!

Atop that famous cliff-top path,

we’ll chatter and snack whilst aching.

I’m certain it will be a laugh!

(*The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk sea cliffs on the English Channel coast).

This bounces along with a lovely rhythm and I like the strict 8 syllable line count. There are some lines that resonate more than others - knee brace being one such. And i am full of admiration for you doing this. I think "little" might just be an understatement. There is one line that hit me, the line where you use "atop" then later in the same line you use "cliff-top."

Thank you!

No problem.
