tonight
in the emptiness
that has become
our life,
I slip away
to ease my
disillusionment
"Good grief," Christie says with a sigh. She crumples his note. "Why can't he just write 'Honey - you forgot to buy milk again. I'm at the store.' - like all the other husbands around here."

The Words That Got to Me
I slip away to ease my disillusionment- oh, the aching melancholy!

I wanted to know more about this mid-matched pair!
I absolutely loved this. I’m currently at a train station and I think I alarmed other travellers with my choking chortle! A wonderful twist here. I loved the wife’s prosaic stance.

Hahaha. That is really a compliment! Thank you, Rachel. Please apologize on my behalf to your fellow travellers. xoxo

Such a great piece of observational humour, Rachelle. I love the frustration shown, that this is not a poem about love lost or abandonment, but captured so wonderfully in that final twist. A note about forgotten milk. It could almost have been written by an eloquent cat.

The Words That Got to Me
whole thing!
Rachelle, this is so funny; quick, laugh-aloud humor in a thimble! And I did! Clever, surprise after an uh oh, trouble on the home front, (I thought,) poem--though beautifully worded! and then wife's typical down-to-earth response. ha ha Still...What a gem of a husband! And a great flash fiction. .
