Conflagation

After the Knicks won the NBA Cup
New York Knicks fans went on a spree;
it wasn’t innocent, not a small fuss;
they beat up and burned up a yellow school bus
and destroyed everything in their path
with intent and unstoppable wrath.
Some policemen were injured, a teenager shot;
t’was bedlam, destructive and wild.
The mayor, Mamdani, said it was great fun
in his interview, seemed he smiled at everyone,
Irresponsible, sad, infantile.
Not a fun celebration was this “after party,”
in fact, the worst one by a mile!
There were videos showing the violence that
have now been removed, and this one
only shows gawkers who're standing around
watching the damage done.
Why would the fans not be joyous and glad
that their team had won something so grand?
and cheered them and partied, but happy, not mad,
that partying I'd understand.

Suggestions / Possible Tweaks
The message was strong and clear, but did you read this aloud? The rhymes and rhythms have no consistency, both line to line and stanza to stanza. I feel this has so much potential, but it needs some work. (You know I'm saying this because the educator in me wants your work to thrive.) xoxox
This is what happens when kids are given a participation trophy from the time they begin learning a sport. Entitlement sets in, and gratitude evaporates. Violence becomes the only way to get high from a major achievement, I guess. Pathetic in general, but embarrassing as a New Yorker.
