Life’s pinions
harass, grind man’s marrow:
Behold the fields…lakes…trees…sky…and breathe.
Let not life
imprison your true self
or prick lies upon your weak heart.
Oh no, Life!
We traipse the golden wild
and will not go gentle into night.

Walk outside and remember to live!
Life’s pinions
harass, grind man’s marrow:
Behold the fields…lakes…trees…sky…and breathe.
Let not life
imprison your true self
or prick lies upon your weak heart.
Oh no, Life!
We traipse the golden wild
and will not go gentle into night.

Yes, I need to find a clearer way to voice the idea in the tap dance line: it is rough to read. Thank you for your thoughtful review! I am excited to be a part of this writing community.

I changed "tap dance" to prick. I like it a lot better.

The Words That Got to Me
Let life not imprison your true self Traipse - this is not used nearly enough, this word! I love it. The golden wild. What a term! I absolutely love it.
Suggestions / Possible Tweaks
In line six, I think without the word "tap," this would flow better. (This opinion has the potential to be worth exactly what you paid me for it...)
What I especially love about this poem is that it feels so Henry David Thoreau-esque. It has a marvelous throw-back feel but brings to light that the theme is still pertinent. Stopping to enjoy life should always, regardless of the year, be Job One. Thank you for this important reminder!! I have missed your writing terribly and am so happy I am privy to it once again!! xoxo

Thank you so much for thinking of me for this website. I am excited to be connected again to you and your writing. This writing website will be golden! And yes, the tap dance line needs work. I will revisit it in a few days.

The Words That Got to Me
Life’s pinions harass, grind man’s marrow: Behold the fields…lakes…trees…sky…and breathe. This is a very strong opening, the word choice is interesting as well as unusual, giving it strength as well as a contrast between imprisonment and freeing through lifting wings.
Suggestions / Possible Tweaks
It may benefit from simpler language in places, but also that would need care to avoid breaking the strength of imagery.
It's a thoughtful and thought-provoking poem, finding its strength in the use of natural imagery. It comes over as both dramatic and earnest. A sincere and confident work of poetry with echoes of Dylan Thomas "do not go gentle into that good night" in the last line.

The Words That Got to Me
I loved this line: 'Behold the fields…lakes…trees…sky…and breathe'. It urged me to live life, to get outdoors, to liver a greater life than I am now - wonderfully powerful. 'Let not life imprison your true self' - this also spoke to me. Time whirrs past so quickly and is often dominated by outer hassles and stresses. This line made me nostalgic for time gone past, and determined to make the most of the years (I hope!) ahead of me.

I wondered if Transend should be Transcend.
This was an incredibly effective and affecting poem. I loved the positive affirmations here.

Thank you so much! Of course it is Transcend. Boy is my face red.

Oh no! Please don’t worry about it. I make sillier errors than that on a daily basis! 😀

The Words That Got to Me
There’s something really grounding about this piece. The line “Behold the fields…lakes…trees…sky…and breathe” really slowed everything down in a calming, almost meditative way. I also felt the contrast between the weight of life in the beginning and the freedom it calls us back to. It’s simple, but it carries a quiet strength that sticks with you.
Suggestions / Possible Tweaks
In the line “tap dance lies upon your weak heart,” you might try something like “lies tap dance across your heart” just to smooth the flow a bit—but honestly, the original still works. There’s something expressive and personal about it that fits the tone of the piece.
This is a beautiful first post. It feels thoughtful and genuine, and I’m really glad you shared it. Looking forward to seeing more of your writing.
