The Long Con

The Long Con

The banners fly, the slogans shout,
Fresh ideas, the papers tout,
Same old lies with fresh handouts,
Roundabout, roundabout.

A leader’s word, a polished tale,
Applause resounds, the details frail.
Promises that stretch and pale,
Epic fail, epic fail.

Headlines race before the facts,
Every rumour covers tracks.
Truth reshaped like softened wax,
Fill the cracks, fill the cracks.

Schemes arrive with pomp and show,
Favoured friends while funds run low,
Who gains what, we'll never know,
Status quo, status quo.

The cards are dealt, the stakes are set,
Power plays without regret,
We pay debts they soon forget,
Place your bet, place your bet.

A flashy speech, a practised cough,
Pundits argue, truth grows soft,
Just more swill to fill the trough,
Just fuck off, just fuck off.

first off, I agree with you. Well said! I am worried for and disgusted with my country, but can't discuss it here, and you may not want to hear it, anyway.

The problem is pretty much global to one degree or another. That's why I deliberately avoided any reference to individuals or nations.

I guess politics are politics no matter what country. Your disgruntled words, sorrowfully, shout of nothing but the truth. It's so hard to remain positive when the people "in charge" are such shameless liars and con artists. xoxo

We live in a sad state. I wish it were not so.

Ditto.
