There was a time
when this old house
was filled with life
and sometimes strife
but mostly life.
There were gated stairs
and potty chairs,
grimy doors
and muddy floors
and life
and, sure, sometimes strife
but mostly life.
There was a time when this old house
teemed with friends
and questionable trends
and life
and loud and bawdy strife
but mostly glorious life.
But then came your death
(Will I ever catch my breath?)
And now this old house has no life,
just unending strife
and the deafening
quiet.

Sometimes, a really good cry is what's needed most in this world. A just-let-it-all-out moment that provides a release to carry on tougher than ever. xoxo

The Words That Got to Me
There was a time when this old house was filled with life and sometimes strife but mostly life. this is such a neat beginning, and then the meaningful additions to it.
a very poignant piece - happy, and proud, and sad. I love the first verse and the variations of life and strife, and the final sadness. Powerful!

The Words That Got to Me
And now this old house has no life Just unending strife Oh Rachelle- this turned on the tear-taps for me. A real emotional twist.
I loved the way you used life and strife in this poem. A massively poignant, emotional poem that knocked me sideways. Powerful and beautiful.
