Greggie and Gran

“Gran, Mom says you’re too old to ride a bike.”

“Well, Sweetie, I’m afraid she’s right. My balance isn’t the greatest, walkin’. S’why I have a cane. Don’t think I could use it with a bike.”

Ha ha ha. That’s pretty funny. I can see you, now, peddling like crazy, holding on with one hand  and pushing the cane to go faster with the other.”

“That’d be pretty funny all right. Think I could beat you in a race?”

“Nooo. Not unless I letcha win.”

“You’d do that for me? Let your grandmother win?”

“We..ll, maybe if nobody was watchin.”

“You little rascal. Tell you what. I’m gonna give you a choice. Would you rather go to the zoo, or to the ice cream parlor for a double dip ice cream cone?”

“Um, don’t they have ice cream at the zoo?”

“Ah, I see. A two-fer. You’re a smart little rascal.”

“I take after you, Gran😊

“Oh dear, and a politician, to boot.”

The Words That Got to Me

"Don't they have ice cream at the zoo?" Beautiful child logic. Why settle for one when you can have both LOL "I take after you, Gran😊" and again, I love the witty retort.

A lovely snatch of life that immediately brought a smile to my lips. I could almost believe this to be a scene you either overheard or personally experienced, as it contains that simple ring of truth that is the mark of great observational humour. Now I want to hear more tales from this relationship.

well, thanks, Tim. That is a challenge. And one I like. Thanks for the idea!

This is why children make the best companions: they tell you the way things REALLY are. No BS; just pure, wonderful candor. I liked the sweetness of this little vignette. Cozy, sweet but real. Thanks for this delight today, Katharine. xoxo

Thanks, Rachelle. Tim sort of challenged me and this pairing of grandmother and grandson has endless possibilities which I will have fun with. and also it's a great distraction from politics.
