Overheard

A double nonet. I wrote this as an entry into the poetry challenge, then realised I was the judge... Oops So all you writers, get writing your entry and make my life as hard as possible in finding a winner. 😎

Hi

Of course

How are you?

Oh, doing fine

You know, much the same

No, I’ve not heard from Jane

Really? I thought they were fine

She didn't! God, what happened then?

With Paul? But he's married to Sarah!

Well, I always thought there was something

Anyway, I really must go

Coffee next week? Yes, perhaps

Yes, that would be lovely

Though next week's quite tight

Yes, so busy

I'll call you

Soon though

Bye

The Words That Got to Me

Really? I thought they were fine She didn't! Lovely little snippet. I heard one on the bus the other day between an elderly lady and a young, teenage girl - 'How's Graham. Alright now?' 'Yeah - he's fine.' 'I haven't seen him for a while. Was he in prison?' The girl looked quite startled so I presumed that wasn't a relevant question!

I enjoyed this gossipy poem, using those intriguing little nuggets we hear all the time.

Two working women trying to keep up a relationship and social niceties, who just honestly don't have the time or the energy. A story in two nonets. This is an interesting slice of life told through dialogue that rang so true it actually made me tired. :)
