Advice from the older me to the younger me

Dear younger me

Dear Younger me,

Hey, just lift your head out of that old book.

Open your eyes and start to take a look!

Yes, the world can be such a scary place,

I know you’re finding it hard to keep pace,

but there is still a place for you out there -

just keep your wits sharp and remain aware.

Dark dangers may arise like mist and fog,

dim days may feel like a very hard slog.

Hold your head up and know this much is true:

Don’t long to be someone else - just be you.

You’ll make silly mistakes; some might be huge,

and tears will fall in a dismal deluge.

Yet hold within you the loving kernel,

just scribble it all down; keep a journal.

When you’re feeling tonelessly out of tune,

your sensitivity may be a boon.

To those who need quiet and loving care,

your love will be seen as valued and rare.

Fragile younger me, feeling so tender:

Don’t ever give up. Never surrender!

Love, Older me
