Rejection letters

Dear Rachel,

Thank you for sending your story for consideration for FunFacts September 2026 Edition. We enjoyed it and it made it through to the last selection round, so we are sorry to have to say that it hasn't been selected for the September 2026 edition of FunFacts.

We do hope you'll send us something again soon though and wish you the best of luck finding the right home for this interesting piece.

Best wishes,

The Editors

Ok, so not too far off the mark.

Dear Madam,

Thank you for sending your piece to us. It received some positive reviews amongst our reading team, but we have decided not to publish it.

All the best,

Editorial team

But positive is a good word, right?

Dear Person of no interest to us Submitter,

Thank you so much for sending your story/article/poem submission to us recently, for the flower-themed fairy competition. We were overwhelmed with the number of inept, inadequate, interesting pieces we received.  We received many more submissions than we wanted, could cope with, expected and some of them were ok, good, excellent. Yours was not one of these.

We hope you will (not) keep us on your radar for our next competition.

Regards,

The Editor

Charming!

Dear ……………………,

We received your submission, and it’s now winging its way back to you. Have you considered taking up another pastime?

Yours,

The Editor

Rude!

Dear Submitter,

It’s a ‘No’ from us.

Yours faithfully,

The Editor-in-chief

Oh dear.

Dear Daydream believer,

It may be time to wake up.

From

The Editors

Mmm? What was that? I was daydreaming again.

But then…

Dear Mrs Gosling,

We are delighted to confirm that we would like to publish your short story in our Summer 2027 edition. Please find details and a contract attached, for your perusal.

Yours sincerely,

The most wonderful editors in the world

Hooray! Validation! Celebration! Yippee... or was it just another dream?

Hahaha. This is great. I understand from other writers friends that these letters make for fabulous bathroom wallpaper! Xoxox

The bathroom may not be large enough. 🤣

HAHAHA! Now that's hilarious!!

I love the way you capture the constant writer's experience of the eternal rejection letters. Starting from the reasonable and shifting rapidly to the ridiculous. I really enjoyed the escalating humour. And the final daydream- well, we have all experienced those. LOL

Thanks Tim!
