Hypocrisy's Garden

One year ago,

Seeds of sanctimonious omniscience

you ended our friendship

germinating into smug superiority

with a barrage of unwarranted, hostile verbiage

Buds of condescension burst into opulent flowers

In silence, I walked away…

 grand, ostentatious pomposity

Afterwards, you played the victim,

pushing their way up taller and shading the ordinary garden varieties

never taking responsibility for the pain you inflicted

They are ooh'ed and ahh'ed upon by fawning admirers.

Today, one year later, you greeted me:

Basking in the murmurings of lemming-like acolytes,

compliments and smiles; no apologies

Those minions who deftly turn a blind eye

Stunned,

to the decay-and-vermin-riddled mud

I walked away… again…

in which their heroes steep.
